I first went here about two years ago and I liked the dentist there but she moved on. Since then, I have noticed there seems to be a high turnaround of staff.

Anyway, I went in on 11th Dec for my 6 month check-up and was told I needed a deep clean and a filling replacement. Got the deep clean and went back on 19th Dec for the filling replacement. It felt bit rough but could not be 100% sure as my whole mouth and tongue were still really numb. The dentist assured me it was fine, but that the tooth might be a bit sensitive for a few days.

I thought nothing more of it until WHAM! Xmas night I was in excruciating pain. Took what painkillers I had at home (nothing was open given the time of year and the Monday was Boxing Day (observed ) as the real Boxing Day was on a Saturday this year.). I only had panadol and Difene, but these weren't very effective against the level of pain I experienced.. It was Blue Murder and went on for 5 days.

I went back to the dentist and didn't get an ounce of sympathy or concern. I told her that the filling seemed a bit high and rough as well. She said there was no sign of infection but took an X-ray anyway. X-ray showed no sign of infection. she said I might need root canal if the pain didn't settle down. (it was marginally better by the Tuesday when I went in thanks to using clove gel.)

But she fixed up the filling. It took her ages. I could tell she was getting annoyed as I kept saying it still wasn't right but I wasn't leaving until it was, given the money I'd already paid. She said she didn't want to drill any more in case it widened the space between the two teeth and food might get stuck. {not sure if this was a genuine reason or a cop-out - you have to hope for the best, though) but then used one of this flat metal-like strips that dentists use for flossing. This done the job and the filling seemed ok after that.

Also the pain vanished and i have not had any pain since. So I have to assume that I don't actually need root canal surgery and the pain experienced was from disturbing the nerves and the inexpert job she done of putting in the filling first time round.

When i left, I realized that she had forgotten to give my the prescription for the pain- killers which I had asked for. (She didn't offer: I had to ask for this.) Don't know how she managed that but DID remember to give me a print -out of an estimate for root canal work. Priorities!

Come to think of it - if she thought there was any chance of "sensitivity" (understatment!) in the first place, she should have wrote out a prescription the first time I was in so that I could have it ready if needed, especially given that it was Xmas. I went back in and was handed it with a sour look.

I would also like to point out that what an earlier reviewer posted about the water drain thing that they flow into your mouth being faulty is still the case. I got sloshed as well. How many years have they been waiting to get it fixed?

It's a very small place. The treatment areas don't have doors or walls - only partitions about oxter-high and I'm only 5' 2". So, yes you can SEE and HEAR everything. Not very reassuring for nervous patients.

    I will never go back.

Just had a scale and Polish at Smiles in South Anne Street Dublin 2.

My appointment was for 2pm and I was seen by 2.10pm by a dentist called Cecilia which was fine.

After lying on the chair I could see that the dental lamp above my head had parts of it's cover / lens broken and it looked dis-colored and not clean. I was a little surprised to see this in a dental clinic where you would imagine hygiene was of the upmost importance. I than looked around at the tools and implements around me and assumed that these were okay as not being a dentist what would I know.

When Cecilia (the dentist) began the treatment with her assistant she used a drill type thing for cleaning my teeth all over (front, back and in between the teeth). This is in comparison to other dentists that I have attended that have used drills, manual scraping and also fine sandpaper between the teeth and also a polish to finish off the service.

At Smiles during the treatment the drill was constantly leaking water down the side of my face and into my ear and when I stopped Cecilia to wipe the water she told me that they had been trying to fix the drill and that it was a problem with it

Broken lights, broken drill all leads me to think if these things are not maintained what is the hygiene protocols for all the equipment in the clinic and was any of the equipment sterile before use on my mouth.

By the end of the treatment my teeth were left feeling rough and uneven on the back surface after the descaling which was all done using a drill of some sort. The dentist then put some pink paste on my teeth with a brush and was finished in less than 5 minutes. In total the full scale and polish lasted about 15 minutes with little or no attention to detail.

Before I got a chance to say anything about how I felt about my teeth still feeling rough she had left the area and was working on a computer across the way. Not once did I get advice on maintenance or care for my teeth or even a follow up appointment.

Having Started at 2.10pm and back out on South Anne Street by 2.30pm the treatment was the quickest I have ever had at a dentist and it showed.

This is one client who was not left smiling after visiting Smiles. I'll be going somewhere else to have the back of my teeth corrected asap and would not recommend Smiles dental to anyone looking for quality dentistry and service after all you cannot regrow your teeth.
